An Armour Joint is a heavy-duty steel joint protection system specially designed for industrial concrete flooring to protect slab edges from cracking, chipping, and wear. It is installed at construction joints and expansion joints in concrete floors.

A normal Construction Joint is just a planned break when you can't pour concrete in one go. An Armour Joint replaces that weak break with a permanent leave-in-place steel formwork system embedded directly into the concrete slab during pouring.

Why it is used?

Concrete floors expand, shrink and move with temperature and heavy loads. Without protection, the edges at every pour break crack and chip when forklifts, pallet trucks, and trolleys cross them.

Armour Joint solves 2 problems at once:

1. Edge protection: Two steel angles / plates on top protect the concrete edge 
2. Load transfer: It allows efficient load transfer between concrete slabs, so the floor stays stable and durable 

The S-Wave type is specifically designed for impact-free load transfer - its wave-shaped profile minimizes shock and vibration, allowing smooth movement of material handling equipment.

Typical Applications

Main Components

1. Top Steel Angles / Armour Caps: L-shaped 50x50x6mm steel, galvanized or MS. Takes all the impact.
2. Divider Plates: 2 back-to-back vertical steel plates (typically 6-10mm thick). Acts as permanent shuttering.
3. Plate Dowel + Sleeve: Flat steel dowels welded to one side, with a plastic sleeve on the other side. This is what transfers load but still lets the slab expand / contract horizontally.
4. Fixing System: Anchors and leveling system to hold it straight during concrete pour.
5. Optional Filler: Foam / sealant between plates for expansion.
